Fez is the largest and most established city in Morocco and gives an excellent idea of an eastern city in the Middle Ages. However, when you enter one of the many gates, of which Bab Boujloud, Bab Ftouh, Bab R’cif or Bab Guissa are the most disturbing, you’ll be mixed up in an energetic swarm where everyone continues.

There is no motor vehicle here; everything moves on trucks, donkeys or donkeys. You should have a real sense of direction if you don’t get tangled up in those tangled avenues and back entrances, some closures on crowded streets. Especially the names of derbs are rarely shown, from time to time they are even products! However, when all else fails, you can usually ask for your direction, the consensus of the people who are finishing, or you can choose the direction of fall efficiently. At this point, you will land at the base of the medina near Bab Ftouh.

Like most urban communities of the Middle Ages, the medina is isolated in work areas: the souks of the boilermakers in Plaza Seffarine, the dyers and leather experts in the Debbahine area, the potters, butchers, the souk of flavours El Attarine and the artisans of the place Nejjarine. The starting point is Bab Boujloud, the blue door with its beautiful blue and green ceramics.

We reached the alleys of Fez to explore beautiful narrow streets lined with fresh local fruits, vegetables, spice hills, woven Berber carpets and other Moroccan handicrafts.

Then Qaraouiyine is a mosque and one of the oldest universities in the world. It was founded by Fatima Al-Fihria in 859 and is the true hallmark of Fez that stands out from afar with its green tiled roofs. It is also the most established mosque in the country and has a library with more than 30,000 books. Tours in Fez will surprise you with other historical places: other secret activities.
